Sunderland’s Eliezer Mayenda to undergo Rennes medical ahead of €25m switch

Rennes have reached a €25m agreement with Sunderland to sign Eliezer Mayenda (21). The Spain U21 striker is making a return to France after making his professionnal debut with Sochaux. Mayenda struggled for game time under the tutelage of Régis Le Bris with the Black Cats last season. The 21-year-old will sign a five-year deal with Franck Haise’s Les Bretons.

Foot Mercato understands that Mayenda will undergo the first part of his medical today late in the afternoon. The second part is due tomorrow in the morning. Mayenda is expected to be deployed on Rennes’ right wing, where Haise only had Musa Al-Tamari and Ludovic Blas at his disposal. Mayenda is Rennes’ third most expansive signing, after Amine Gouiri (€28m) and Jérémy Doku (€26m).
