Just over one week remains in the January transfer window. Sunderland’s business so far and the rules around deadline day, including the deal sheet, are set out here. According to Sunderland Echo, clubs face a tight timetable next Monday.
A bold summer brought in Robin Roefs, Granit Xhaka and Omar Alderete, and Régis Le Bris’ side have hovered around European places with wins over Brentford, Newcastle United and Chelsea, plus points against Manchester City and Liverpool.
January was always expected to be quieter, though Jocelin Ta Bi has arrived from Maccabi Netanya in a cut-price deal. Jay Matete and Joe Anderson have joined MK Dons and Barrow, while Blondy Nna Noukeu has signed for French club Boulogne. Timothee Pembele is on loan at Le Havre, Zak Johnson at York City, and Ethan Moore has joined Gateshead on loan.
Elsewhere, Manchester City are the biggest spenders so far, paying about £84m for Marc Guehi and Antoine Semenyo. Tottenham Hotspur has authorised two eye-catching deals, Brennan Johnson joining Palace for £35m, then a £34m agreement with Atletico Madrid to bring former Chelsea man Conor Gallagher back to the Premier League. West Ham have added Lazio striker Taty Castellanos for £25m.
Deadline day is Monday, 2 February, with the Premier League window closing at 7pm. A deal sheet, which cannot be submitted before 5pm, lets clubs confirm an agreement before the deadline and grants until 9pm to complete paperwork.
