According to Transfermarkt, Sunderland’s squad is valued at €386.43m, sitting below Everton and above Leeds United, as they prepare for a maiden Europa League campaign.
Last season’s seventh-placed finish delivered only the club’s second foray into Europe, and the first since the 1973 FA Cup winners entered the Cup Winners’ Cup the following year.
That progress followed a sweeping rebuild last summer. Club-record deals brought midfielders Enzo Le Fee and Habib Diarra, Getafe defender Omar Alderete arrived, and Dutch prospects Robin Roefs and Brian Brobbey joined. Granit Xhaka was also lured back to the Premier League after his spell at Bayer Leverkusen.
This window is not expected to be as frenetic, though further additions are understood to be needed if Sunderland are to build on a memorable season. The surge in estimated market value underlines the shift over the past year.
At the top end, Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea are valued at €1.32bn, €1.25bn and €1.11bn respectively. Manchester United, Tottenham and Newcastle are listed at €752.10m, €700.00m and €696.35m.
