Sunderland’s notional strongest XI based purely on transfer value has been set out, and some key men do not make it. According to TransferMarkt valuations, it features a youthful core around high-price summer arrivals.
With the play-off final win secured, Sunderland triggered a £20m permanent deal for Enzo Le Fee, then beat Leeds United to a reported £30m move for Habib Diarra. Further recruits included Granit Xhaka, Omar Alderete, Nordi Mukiele, Reinildo Mandava, goalkeeper Robin Roefs and striker Brian Brobbey.
In goal, Robin Roefs, €25.00m. The back four is Trai Hume, €22.00m, Dan Ballard, €20.00m, Omar Alderete, €15.00m, and Dennis Cirkin, €8.00m.
Midfield comprises Habib Diarra, €32.00m, Noah Sadiki, €30.00m, and Chris Rigg, €25.00m. Chemsdine Talbi, €25.00m, and Enzo Le Fee, €25.00m, flank Brian Brobbey, €25.00m. That selection leaves experienced signing Xhaka outside this value-led XI.
By early September the squad had been reshaped, and the newcomers have underpinned an unexpected push for Europe in this first Premier League season back. Regis Le Bris said reaching 40 points early was probably unexpected, while injuries and fatigue are now being felt.
He stressed there would be no excuses, highlighting togetherness and the squad’s identity, and said such periods can reinforce pillars. He added that better days could follow with a full group and greater freshness.
