Sunderland and Crystal Palace are setting the Premier League pace for World Cup goals so far.
Sunderland Echo notes that Sunderland have 12 players in North America, with several impressing during the opening fortnight.
Brian Brobbey has found the net for the Netherlands, while Granit Xhaka, linked with Chelsea in recent days, has led Switzerland with composure.
Wilson Isidor struck from long range but could not prevent defeat, whereas Nilson Angulo scored as Ecuador stunned Germany to reach the knockouts. Habib Diarra added another from close range in Senegal’s comprehensive win against Iraq on Friday, which left Sunderland level with Palace as the top club providers of group-stage goals.
Isidor is heading home for a break before turning to pre-season, but many team-mates now face knockout ties and can extend the tally.
Club totals so far: seven goals Sunderland and Crystal Palace, five Newcastle United, Arsenal and Manchester United, four Liverpool and Manchester City, three Wolverhampton Wanderers, two Brighton and Hove Albion and West Ham United, one Aston Villa, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur.
Leading Premier League scorers: four goals, Erling Haaland. Three goals, Brian Brobbey, Ismaila Sarr, Matheus Cunha, Yoane Wissa. Two goals, Anthony Elanga, Cody Gakpo, Crysencio Summerville, Daichi Kamada, Daniel Munoz, Kai Havertz, Leandro Trossard, Yasin Ayari. One goal, John McGinn, Iliman Ndiaye, Jean Paul Van Hecke.
