FC Bayern will face Borussia Dortmund this Saturday in the race for the first title of the new season. Ahead of the Super Cup showdown at Signal Iduna Park, several statistics point in Munich’s favor. The record champions have been virtually unbeatable lately, especially in Dortmund and on the road.
When Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern face off on Saturday evening, it will mark the tenth head-to-head matchup between the two German heavyweights in the Super Cup.
The head-to-head record so far could hardly be more even. Bayern has won five of the nine Super Cup matches, while Dortmund has come out on top four times. With another victory, the Black and Yellows could even the head-to-head record.
In the competition’s all-time standings, however, Munich clearly has the edge. Bayern has already won the Super Cup eleven times, making them the record champions. BVB has six titles and has been waiting for its next triumph since 2019.

Bayern’s recent dominance becomes even clearer when looking at their head-to-head competitive matches. Dortmund has won only one of its last 16 competitive matches against the German record champions.
Even home-field advantage has done little to help BVB lately. Dortmund has gone eight home games without a win against Bayern. During that span, Munich secured six wins, while two matches ended in draws.
This streak is now set to end in the Super Cup, of all places. For Vincent Kompany’s team, however, the goal is to build on their strong record while also securing the first title of the 2026–27 season.
The fact that past matchups are no guarantee of a Bayern victory was already evident last season. Both Bundesliga encounters were fiercely contested. Bayern prevailed only narrowly, 3–2 and 2–1.
Another impressive streak speaks in Munich’s favor. FC Bayern has not lost a domestic away game since December 2024.
The record champions are now unbeaten in 31 such away matches. This streak will be put to the test, of all places, at Signal Iduna Park.
That’s another reason why Kompany should be wary of BVB, despite the strong statistics. Dortmund significantly revamped its roster over the summer and, under Niko Kovac, aims to attack with a younger and more dynamic team.
For both clubs, the Super Cup also offers the opportunity to make a strong statement right before the start of the Bundesliga season. While the statistics favor FC Bayern, the tenth Super Cup matchup between the two rivals starts with a clean slate.
