Carlos Eduardo changed it in the 71st minute with a right-footed finish into the roof of the net, as Mirassol drew 1-1 with Chapecoense.
Moments after coming on, the 36-year-old found the pocket he wanted and struck cleanly after Willian Machado teed him up (71.). The timing of his run and first touch opened the lane for the decisive hit.
With Chape pressing late, Carlos Eduardo helped steady Mirassol by winning a defensive free kick and buying seconds for his side (85.). His positioning without the ball kept passing routes open whenever pressure rose.
He ended with one attempt and one goal, 10 touches, five of six passes completed, and one possession regained. The cameo showed economy and impact in equal measure.
Because Verdão do Oeste's back line narrowed to deal with crosses, his central starting points and late movements disrupted their shape and gave Mirassol a focal point between the lines.
Mirassol host RB Bragantino in the Copa do Brasil next. Chape face Botafogo in the same competition.
