While it may have been a disappointing season on the whole for Flamengo, it was a personal triumph for Vitinho as he posted some hugely impressive numbers.
While the 28-year-old was reduced to the role of substitute quite often by the Rubro-Negro, he has developed the happy knack of impacting games from the bench.
In his third full season with the MengĂŁo, the attacking midfielder registered a significant increase in his goal involvements.
He had nine goals and four assists in 52 games in 2019. The following season saw him feature in 49 games, scoring three times and notching five assists.
But 2021 saw the former CSKA Moscow man hit new levels, finding the net 14 times and racking up 15 assists.
There is no doubt that Vitinho has finally found his feet at the MaracanĂŁ.
However with just a year left on his contract and reported interest from clubs in the Gulf, it could be that Flamengo will use that uptick in form to recoup some of the €10m they spent on him before he can leave for free in 12 months’ time.
