It looks as though Coventry City could be dealt another transfer blow, as star player Callum O’Hare looks set to leave the club.

The Sky Blues were involved in another entertaining campaign, as they were in and around the Championship play-off fight as well as having a strong run in the FA Cup.

But given that they will be in the second tier once again next season, it seems their chances of retaining O’Hare beyond this summer are slim.

The 26-year-old has been on Coventry's books since 2020, but he did spend the season before that on loan at the Midlands outfit from Aston Villa.

His time at the club has been plagued with injuries, but he has also shown his quality for the Sky Blues, becoming a key player in their attack.

But given that his contract does expire at the end of June, it seems that his time with the club has now come to an end. It is just a matter of where he goes next, given that there are a few teams interested.

Leicester City and West Ham are among the sides interested in Callum O’Hare

As mentioned, Callum O’Hare’s contract with Coventry will expire at the end of June, so it will come down to the decision of the player himself as to what he wants to do next.

The 26-year-old has been offered a new deal by the Sky Blues, but it has been reported that the offer has been snubbed.

A player of his talents becoming a free agent has meant several teams have been showing interest, with it being reported that teams such as Aston Villa, West Ham, and Southampton are all keen on the midfielder.

It was reported by Football Insider last week though that Leicester City - local rivals of Coventry - have now tried to get ahead of the pack by registering their interest in O’Hare.

The report states that the Foxes are pushing hard to sign the attacking midfielder this summer, with him eager to prove himself in the Premier League. It adds that O’Hare’s destination is likely going to be the Premier League, given that both sides are interested.

This came before it was reported by Football Insider earlier this week that West Ham are also keen to bring the attacking midfielder to their club as they work on a deal for him and Hull City’s Jacob Greaves.

The report states that the Hammers are hoping to secure a deal for O’Hare quickly as they start planning for life after David Moyes.

Callum O’Hare must prioritise Leicester City over West Ham

It appears that O’Hare has some big decisions to make this summer, as he has got more than one club chasing his signature.

The good news for O’Hare is that, given that he is coming to the end of his contract, it will come down to his decision and his decision alone as to where he goes next, and he should get a decent signing-on fee for making a move.

Both Leicester City and West Ham are good options for the player, as both are in the Premier League, but it might just be that the Foxes are a better destination for someone who has had another impressive campaign.

O’Hare played 31 times in the Championship this season, and while only 18 came as starts due to the fact he was still trying to get back to fitness after a long-term knee injury, he still did impressively well to contribute to Coventry’s season.

The 26-year-old scored six goals, which was higher than his expected goals (xG) stats of 4.09, and he finished the season with a goal conversion rate of 15%.

As well as the goals, O’Hare was key in creating opportunities for his teammates, as he created four big chances, averaged 1.2 key passes per match and notched three assists, as per Sofascore.com.

So, given how well he has done this season and in previous campaigns, it is no surprise that Premier League teams are taking notice.

Both Leicester and West Ham are great options, but it should be Leicester that becomes more of a priority for the midfielder this summer. This is because, out of the two clubs, it seems that his chances of playing often will come at the King Power Stadium rather than in East London.

The Foxes could be set to lose key players in the midfield department, as Wilfred Ndidi has been linked with a move to Galatasaray when his contract expires next month. Meanwhile, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has also been linked with an exit, but he has come out and stated he has no intentions of leaving despite the club's need to raise funds before June 30.

That stance could change depending on offers that may arrive, so there is a possibility that Leicester have gaps to fill in their team, and that would mean O’Hare would likely play regularly for Leicester should he join the club.

On the other hand, West Ham look set to be under a new manager next season, with Julen Lopetegui expected to take over from David Moyes.

It seems to be sporting director Tim Steidten driving the pursuit of O'Hare, and given that West Ham do have some decent options in O’Hare’s position, the likes of Jarred Bowen, Maxwel Cornet, Mohammed Kudus, and Lucas Paqueta, it wouldn't make too much sense to pursue the Coventry man unless a big hitter is sold.

The Hammers could sign the 26-year-old, but he may not be preferred under Lopetegui, but at Leicester, at least Enzo Maresca would be in line with the board, and he would only be keen on signing the player if he knew he could fit into his team.

O’Hare needs to make the right move in terms of where he is going to play the most football, and while it will disappoint Coventry fans, that looks to be Leicester given their squad depth and the fact they are a newly promoted side.
