It’s still somewhat the calm before the storm on Säbener Straße. On Monday, FC Bayern will officially begin preparations for the new season. However, some stars are already in Munich and putting in extra work. Now, surprisingly, a World Cup player has also started training.
That player is Alphonso Davies. The Canadian left-footed player, whose team was eliminated in the Round of 16 as a co-host of the World Cup, completed his first training session in Munichtoday, Thursday .
Although Davies was injured before the tournament and underwent special rehabilitation training in the lead-up to the World Cup—and only played once during the tournament—he was still part of the Canadian squad.
Normally, players who participated in the World Cup take a break first and then rejoin the team once they’re well-rested.
According to FC Bayern, this was an individual training session. The record champions are well informed about Davies’ physical condition.
This is because direct communication with the doctors and support staff of the Canadian Hockey Association was a condition for his selection for the tournament.

One simple reason for starting training early is likely that Davies still has a few physical gaps to fill before he becomes a permanent option. Jesse Marsch, the Canadian national team coach, stated around the time of the World Cup that a appearance in the group stage was unrealistic for the left-footed player.
Marsch was bluffing; he kept Davies on the bench for two games, but his plan all along was to bring the Bayern star into the tournament only for the knockout stage.
After the round of 32, Davies suffered a minor setback. However, an examination revealed no structural injury. Now the focus is on slowly increasing his workload in training at Bayern Munich and regaining more stability.
