A head-turning statistic, highlighting the ongoing excellence of Barcelona star Pedri on the defensive side of the ball, has this week come to the fore online.

This comes amid confirmation that the former Las Palmas man has won possession more times than any other player in Europe’s top-five leagues this season.

Midfielder Pedri, for his part, is of course in the midst of nothing short of a sensational individual campaign to date.

Having seemingly put his long-standing fitness woes firmly behind him, the 22-year-old has looked back to his brilliant best, standing out as one of world football’s best in his role.

Pedri, for the most part, has been lauded for his efforts on the ball, with the Spaniard’s dribbling and passing having been of an exceptional standard throughout the campaign.

As alluded to above, though, it is his endeavours when out of possession which have this week given rise to a head-turning statistic.

As revealed by statisticians WhoScored, Pedri is the player who has won possession the most times in Europe’s top-five leagues in 2024/25.

The Barcelona standout has 238 such recoveries, ahead of Chelsea’s Moisés Caicedo in 2nd (211).
