Surprise Barcelona star named Man of the Match for performance in win over Real Valladolid

A somewhat surprising member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona secured Man of the Match honours for his showing in the club’s latest outing.
The player in question? Gerard Martín.
Stopper Martín was for his part in from the off once more this evening, as Barcelona returned to La Liga action in a meeting with Real Valladolid.
And en route to an eventual 2-1 triumph for Hansi Flick’s troops, the Spaniard played an important role.
The highlight of Martín’s display came on the hour mark, when the 23-year-old’s inch-perfect pull-back from the left was directed home by teammate Fermín López.
Barcelona, in turn, completed their turnaround from an early goal down.
And as alluded to above, such efforts, added to his all-round performance, proved enough to earn Martín a rare individual honour at the Estadio José Zorrilla.
As confirmed on La Liga’s post-match broadcast, the full-back was named Man of the Match on Saturday night:
