Arne Slot’s time seems to be running out at Liverpool and speculation is mounting over who could replace the Dutchman.
Several of the Reds’ biggest rivals have parted ways with their head coaches this season, including Manchester United and Chelsea.
Chelsea have already appointed a new permanent manager, Liam Rosenior, but Manchester United have taken a different approach, appointing former player Michael Carrick as an interim boss until the end of the season.
If Slot was relieved of his duties, and Liverpool did choose to follow in the footsteps of United, there are a number of contenders who could take interim charge of the club.
Steven Gerrard has been widely discussed as the obvious candidate to take temporary control of Liverpool if Slot is sacked, but there is another obvious candidate that is already at the club.

Liverpool’s under 21 manager, Rob Page, has put together an excellent run to start 2026, one that was compounded by the young Reds’ 7-0 win over Arsenal on Saturday.
Page is the former manager of the Welsh national team and made over 400 senior appearances before turning to coaching.
The Welshman is familiar with the club and could be the man to right the ship at Anfield, with his extensive knowledge of Liverpool academy talents likely a big positive in the eyes of Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes.
Page’s only previous experience coaching club sides is limited to stints with Port Vale and Northampton Town, but his U21 side are undefeated in 2026 and he would represent a cheaper option than Gerrard for the interim Liverpool job.
Slot's job is under immense pressure, but Liverpool are still expected to give the Dutchman time to turn performances around and secure his future at Anfield.
If Slot cannot turn things around, and Liverpool do decide to appoint an interim manager until the end of the season, Rob Page has cemented himself as one of the obvious candidates for the job.
