In a surprise move, Italy Under-21 international Lorenzo Pirola is heading from Salernitana to Olympiacos Piraeus for €3m.
The 22-year-old was a product of the Inter youth academy, who went on loan to Monza and then Salernitana before a €5m sale in the summer of 2023.
His next career step was always going to be away from the Stadio Arechi following their relegation to Serie B and the failed takeover of the club.
According to Sky Sport Italia transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, the deal is done for Pirola to be sold to Greek side Olympiacos for approximately €3m.
The central defender had been a core figure in the Italy Under-21 team in recent years, amassing 18 caps and scoring three goals.
Inter will receive a 15 per cent cut of the sell-on fee, so just over €300,000.
This will no doubt be seen as another example of Italian youth moving abroad to get regular playing time, while the top Serie A clubs instead focus on bringing in cheaper foreign talent.
