„Surreal“: Vincent Kompany sharply rejects Real’s refereeing criticism

Vincent Kompany has found clear words after FC Bayern’s spectacular 4-3 win against Real Madrid – and clearly rejected the fierce criticism of the referee from the Spaniards. While the yellow card against Eduardo Camavinga in particular caused outrage in Madrid, the Bayern coach showed little understanding for it

„I have nothing to say about that,“ said Kompany at the post-match press conference – and then went on to say that, in his view, the discussion about individual decisions falls far too short

Kompany sees many controversial scenes

The 40-year-old made it clear that there were several situations throughout the game that could be assessed differently. „If you look at the game, there are many other strange and odd situations with the referee,“ said Kompany. The FCB coach referred, among other things, to Konrad Laimer’s alleged foul on Brahim Diaz immediately before Arda Güler’s free-kick goal

According to Kompany, Antonio Rüdiger’s foul on Josip Stanisic shortly before Real made it 3-2 was also not correctly penalized by the referee

He made it clear that focusing on a single scene did not reflect the course of the game in his opinion, but rather that it was an intense duel in which both teams had to live with decisions

Real players and officials were shocked by the yellow card for Eduardo Camavinga after the game

„I find it surreal“

The Bayern coach was particularly clear in his assessment of the public reaction from Spain. „I think it’s surreal to complain about it,“ explained Kompany, directly contradicting the narrative that the referee was largely responsible for Real’s elimination

A clear message – and at the same time a sign that the focus at FC Bayern is already back on the sporting side of things

While Real Madrid continue to fuel the debate about the referee, Munich are primarily satisfied with their own performance. The focus is on reaching the semi-finals – and the realization that they can prevail against a top opponent even in a highly dramatic match

Kompany’s attitude fits into the overall picture: no excuses, no looking back – just full focus on what can still come.
