“The opportunity came up for us to sign Cameron and we’re delighted that we were able to get this season-long loan deal agreed. He’s shown his quality during his spells in Belgium and Switzerland and can definitely help us this season,” said Niemeyer.

For head coach Horst Steffen, the Swiss-born Spaniard is a fantastic signing. “Cameron can play across the midfield. At his last club, he showed that he is a goal threat as well as someone that can create for others. He has both quality with the ball at his feet and a good tactical understanding. He is also very quick and doesn’t shy away from a tackle. We’re very happy that he’s joined us.”

Cameron Puertas rejoins two of his former teammates from Union Saint-Gilloise in Senne Lynen and Victor Boniface and is looking forward to getting started for Werder: “I’m delighted that the loan to Werder has come about and I can’t wait to get out there on the pitch with my new teammates.”

Puertas played 38 times for Al-Qadsiah, scoring five goals. Before that he played 118 games in Belgium for Union Saint-Gilloise, in which he scored 21 goals. His first professional appearances came in Switzerland for FC Lausanne, having also previously played in their U21 side. The former Swiss U21 international scored 11 goals in 101 games for the club.
