Swansea City have bucked the trend from recent seasons by doing business early in the summer transfer window

The Championship season may have finished less than a week ago for Swansea City, but Alan Sheehan's side have already started to do business in the transfer window.

The Swans announced the signing of winger Zeidane Inoussa from Swedish side BK Hacken earlier this week, kick-starting a new era under Sheehan and giving supporters reason to be optimistic ahead of what's set to be a busy summer.

However, Swansea's early transfer business doesn't end there, and Inoussa will be joined in SA1 by fellow Swede Melker Widell when the players return to pre-season training in July, with Widell penning a deal to join the Swans in January before spending the remainder of the season with Danish club Aalborg.

This means that while their season finished just a matter of days ago, Swansea already have two promising signings in the bag ready for next season, a clear head start over their Championship rivals and a welcome change in strategy for the Jack Army.

Early signings leave Swansea City in uncharted territory

Swansea supporters have become all too accustomed to deadline day scrambles for signings in recent years, and previous managers Russell Martin and Luke Williams both criticised the club for their transfer dealings.

After failing to make a single signing in January 2023, Martin told BBC Sport: "The football club in the time I've been here, and the time before that probably, makes too many deadline deals and I'm not convinced a huge amount of them will have turned out to be hugely positive."

Williams echoed those sentiments earlier this year after a disappointing January transfer window, stating that Swansea "must do better on transfers."

On early evidence, Swansea seem to have learned from mistakes of past transfer windows, and the fact that they have Widell and Inoussa signed at this stage shows they're making a conscious effort to get business done early this summer.

It looks like there could well be more additions on the way too, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that 19-year-old Kilmarnock striker Bobby Wales will join the Swans at the end of the season when his contract with the Scottish side expires.

While not confirmed, it looks as if Wales will indeed make the move to South Wales this summer, and many Swansea supporters can scarcely believe just how proactive they've been with three new additions all but confirmed already.

It's fair to say that nobody involved with the club will miss those frantic deadline days scrambling around for players, and on early evidence, Swansea seem to mean business this summer.

It's been a very positive few weeks for Swansea City

With new signings already through the door, Sheehan announced as permanent manager, an upturn in form and Luka Modrić being announced as an investor, the Swansea.com Stadium is a good place to be at the moment.

The fact Sheehan was able to steer the club to a mid-table finish after an awful January left them in a perilous position offers confidence that they could enjoy a successful 2025/26 campaign, and a strong summer transfer window will undoubtedly play a part in determining how Swansea fare next season.

However, Swansea's biggest asset this summer could well be Modric, with the Real Madrid legend reportedly speaking to Inoussa prior to his move to help convince him that SA1 was the right place to further his career.

With a legend of the game like Modric as part of your ownership team, it would be silly not to use him to convince transfer targets that Swansea is the right club for them, and a call from the Croatian midfielder could go a long way to helping the Swans get the players they want this summer.

After a dismal January both on and off the pitch, the transformation in recent weeks has been nothing short of remarkable, and recent transfer business has left Swansea in uncharted territory ahead of the window opening.
