Swansea City have confirmed defender Cameron Burgess will be sidelined for a significant period after scans revealed he has ruptured his Achilles.
The Australia international was forced off during the closing stages of Saturday’s Carabao Cup clash with Birmingham City, with Swansea head coach Vitor Matos immediately expressing concerns over the severity of the injury.
Further assessment has now confirmed Burgess has suffered a full tear of his Achilles.
“Swansea City can confirm defender Cameron Burgess is set for a significant spell on the sidelines after scans confirmed the Australia international has ruptured his Achilles,” the club said.
Burgess will undergo surgery before beginning a rehabilitation programme as he starts his recovery from the serious injury.
The defender’s absence represents a significant blow for Swansea ahead of the start of the Championship season.
