Leo Walta has admitted that Swansea City have shown interest in his services
Finland international midfielder Leo Walta has confirmed that Swansea City have shown an interest in securing his services ahead of the January transfer window opening.
The Swans have endured a miserable 2025/26 campaign thus far, as they sit 19th and just two points outside of the relegation zone after 17 matches.
After picking up eight points from their first four second-tier outings, the Welsh outfit have only managed to score nine more in the next 13 games and are currently on a run of four straight defeats.
This form was too much for the higher-ups at Swansea City to ignore and former boss Alan Sheehan paid the price by losing his job. Swedish manager Kim Hellberg was targeted as the ideal replacement to take over, but fellow Championship side Middlesbrough swooped in to acquire his services instead.
Former Liverpool coach Vitor Matos was then appointed, and he now has the task of making sure Swansea don’t fall into the relegation zone - and he may be helped in the upcoming transfer window with some fresh faces.

One main way the Swans can boost their chances of survival is by performing well in the January transfer window.
Whilst it isn’t known exactly who Matos would look to bring in, one player has publicly admitted that Swansea have shown an interest in signing him.
It was previously reported in Sweden that the Welsh outfit were weighing up a transfer for Finland international midfielder Leo Walta, who scored 16 times in the Allsvenskan for Sirius this year from the middle of the park, and has also been capped 10 times by his national side.
The 22-year-old has been described as a “superstar” and could potentially be a useful asset for Swansea in the second half of the season, providing they could get a deal done.
Not looking to hold anything back about a potential switch, Walta openly confessed that the Swans have directly shown an interest in signing him when speaking to Fotboll Direkt.
“Yes. Yes, I have heard (from them),” admitted Walta. “That they like me as a player and are interested.
“It’s quite early, we’re still in November. I’m going through different options, and we also have to talk to Sirius about the winter.
“I’m ready for a good league and to take a place straight away. I am a pretty good player, in my opinion, and I want to take a big step and see how far I can go.”
Walta’s contract with Sirius runs until 2028, so Swansea would likely have to pay a notable transfer fee to secure his services, and given the same club managed to recieve a fee of between £3 million and £4 million earlier this year for now-Cardiff City striker Yousef Salech, they will likely not be letting the Finn go for cheap.
Given how precarious Swansea City’s current league position is, they can’t take any risks during the January transfer window.
This could rule out a move for the young midfielder, as his ability in the English game is untested and the Swans aren’t in a position to provide him with time to adapt right now.
However, his performances last season for Sirius prove there is an immense talent waiting to be uncovered and within the right environment, could explode in the Championship.
16 goals from the middle of the park is no mean feat and whilst there may be some reservations about his performance in the English game, Walta could also provide the antidote to Swansea’s problems.
It's not like Swansea don't have a lot of midfielders though - Goncalo Franco, Ethan Galbraith, Melker Widell, Marko Stamenic and Malick Yalcouye all provide something different, but no-one has the goal record that Walta has had in Sweden in the past year - could he be the missing piece in South Wales?
