Swansea City have confirmed the signing of Adam Idah from Celtic. The Irish Internationalist has sealed a return to the Championship just a year after his permanent switch to Glasgow’s East End.

The ambitious Championship side mounted a surprise move for Idah, who scored 29 goals for Celtic, and now have secured his signing on a long term deal. Surprisingly, Swansea have confirmed the deal despite Celtic being in a position whereby no replacement has been signed.

Idah was down in Wales on Thursday with a deal expected to be completed shortly thereafter. However, he was recalled to Celtic as Brendan Rodgers refused to sanction a move with no replacement in the building. Despite this decision, Idah didn’t feature on Sunday in the dull draw with Rangers.

Kasper Dolberg was expected to be the replacement but now Ajax have emerged as serious contenders for the Dane’s signature, having offered a loan with obligation to buy deal. It would be a serious blow to the morale around the club if Celtic missed out on the 55-cap striker. Now the club are said to be looking at Datro Fofana of Chelsea and Sekou Mara of Strasbourg.

On one view it may be that Celtic are confident in getting a deal done that they’ve allowed Idah to depart. Or, it may be that the window is close to shutting in England and they’ve taken the view that some cash is better than none.
