Swansea City have announced the appointment of Vítor Matos with the Portuguese head coach signing a deal to keep him at the club until the end of the 2028/29 season.
Despite being just 37, Matos has a lengthy coaching career having coached with Porto's youth setup as well as in China before becoming a part of the Liverpool backroom staff under Jürgen Klopp.
In 2024 Matos then followed Pepijn Lijnders to what was an in-fated spell with Red Bull Salzburg before taking over at Portuguese second tier side Marítimo in the summer.
After just 12 games in charge of the Madeira side, Swansea City have paid the release clause to bring the manager to Wales.
"We spoke to a range of candidates and Vítor was the clear stand-out with a cohesive plan of how to take our squad forward and improve," the club's CEO, Tom Gorringe said.
"Vítor has spent over a decade working at elite clubs, and has been a trusted figure for some of the best coaches operating in the modern game.
"He is committed to playing an attacking brand of football, and to developing players technically and tactically, and we are sure supporters are going to enjoy watching his Swansea City team in action."
Matos has plenty to do to turn things around at Swansea, with the club currently 20th in the Championship ahead of a Tuesday night's game at home to Derby County.
