Sweden head coach Graham Potter has signed a contract extension that will keep him in charge of the national team until 2030.

The Swedish Football Association confirmed the new deal on Thursday, despite Potter having overseen only two matches since taking the role last October.

The 50-year-old was appointed following a disappointing World Cup qualifying campaign that saw Sweden finish bottom of Group B with just two points. They suffered home-and-away defeats to both Switzerland and Kosovo, while their only points came from two draws with Slovenia.

Despite that poor run, Sweden still secured a place in the play-offs thanks to their Nations League performances. Winning Group C1 earned them promotion to League B and ensured a play-off spot as one of the highest-ranked group winners who failed to finish in the top two of their qualifying group.

Sweden must now overcome Ukraine in a one-legged semi-final on 26 March to keep their qualification hopes alive. If they progress, Potter’s side will face either Albania or Poland in Stockholm five days later for a place at the tournament.
