Sweden manager praises Liverpool boss Arne Slot’s management of Alexander Isak | OneFootball

Sweden boss Jon Dahl Tomasson praised the way Arne Slot has handled Alexander Isak this season but insists he does not know how many minutes he will play for his national team over the upcoming games.

Isak has been phased in slowly at Liverpool following a lack of game time prior to his £125m move to the club from Newcastle.

And Tomasson believes Isak is getting closer to full fitness, praising the way Reds boss Slot has been careful with the striker.

“Alexander Isak is in a better place,” Tomasson said ahead of the game against Switzerland.

“I think Alexander is a good example in terms of how Liverpool have handled him in a great way. Normally you need a six-week pre-season and then another three weeks to really be at your best.

“He has his own pre-season and plays competitive games. It’s a tough way to get fit, but they’ve handled it well.”

On whether Isak will play the entirety of both games for Sweden, who also face Kosovo next week, Tomasson said: “I don’t know, to be honest, as he hasn’t played 90 minutes yet, but one thing I know is that he looks better than a month ago, which is normal. He also made an excellent assist at the weekend.

“Whether it will be 90 minutes also depends on the games, so I can’t give a good answer about that. We need to look at the players individually and we get data from the clubs regarding what the players can do physically and whether they can play 90 minutes or not twice.”
