The Association Suisse de Football said in a statement it has withdrawn its June 2026 pledge to back Gianni Infantino’s bid for another term as FIFA president. The central committee took the decision at its 25 September 2026 session as elections approach.
The move followed a thorough re-evaluation of developments in recent months. Several matters have raised fundamental questions about leadership, governance, transparency and decision-making within FIFA.
These include the clarity of rules and the integrity of competition in the Balogun case, and institutional integration and accountability under FIFA Forward Enterprise.
For the ASF, credibility, transparency, responsibility and the effective involvement of competent statutory bodies are essential to trust in international football’s leadership and in FIFA’s integrity. In light of developments since June 2026 and outstanding questions, it now considers those conditions no longer met.
Based in the country that hosts the FIFA and UEFA headquarters, the federation has a particular responsibility. It will continue to work for transparency, credible and reliable structures, rule-based decision-making and a united, principled international game.
