Reports suggest Julian Nagelsmann is unlikely to significantly shuffle his pack

Julian Nagelsmann could opt to once again name the same Germany lineup as they face Switzerland in their final Group A game at Euro 2024.

Top spot is on the line in Frankfurt, with Germany, who have already qualified for the last-16, knowing a point will be enough to see them through as group winners.

However, while some managers would opt to shuffle their pack as a result, Nagelsmann has made is clear he does not want to risk losing momentum and is unlikely to make wholesale changes,

“I do think it is important to have as many players from the starting 11 on the pitch so that we stay in the rhythm,” Nagelsmann said after the win over Hungary. “Do not expect to have seven changes to the team. I can rule that out now.”

It could therefore be the same starting XI for the third match in a row, despite Jonathan Tah, Maximilian Mittelstadt, Antonio Rudiger and Robert Andrich all being one booking away from a suspension.

Emre Can is an option to start in midfield if Andrich does drop out of the side, while Leroy Sane is pushing to replace Florian Wirtz on the right wing and Niclas Fullkrug could lead the line if Kai Havertz is rested, but Nagelsmann is set to keep the faith in the players that have delivered six points already.

Switzerland have likely already done enough to reach the knockout stages, though they can make sure of that with a point and will be group winners if they can pull off a surprise win.

Xherdan Shaqiri scored a sensational goal against Scotland last time out as he made his first start of the tournament and will hope to keep his place, but that could depend on a big decision to make up front.

Breel Embolo has played very little football this season due to injuries and has come off the bench in Switzerland’s two Group A matches so far, for 15 minutes against Switzerland and then half an hour in the Scotland match. He could now be ready to start.

Newcastle defender Fabian Schar suffered a broken nose against Scotland but played on for the remaining 70 minutes and is expected to be fine to start.

Predicted Switzerland XI: Sommer; Schar, Akanji, Rodriguez; Widmer, Xhaka, Freuler, Aebischer; Ndoye, Vargas, Embolo

Predicted Germany XI: Neuer; Kimmich, Rüdiger, Tah, Mittelstadt; Andrich, Kroos; Musiala, Gundogan, Wirtz; Havertz
