Ante Jurić has departed Sydney FC after eight-and-a-half years in charge of the Sky Blues.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the club were quick to pay tribute to a stalwart of the Australian game.
Executive Vice Chairman Sebastian Gray said: “On behalf of the board, we want to sincerely thank him for everything he has given to this club over eight and a half seasons, including an incredible run of success that delivered six major trophies and seven straight Grand Finals.”
Jurić leaves Sydney as the most successful coach in the club’s history. Following his appointment in 2017, he guided the club to three Premiers Plates and three Grand Final wins.
Under Jurić’s charge, Sydney qualified for seven consecutive Grand Finals. In fact, until that streak was broken last season, the Sky Blues had never failed to make the season decider with Jurić at the helm.
A late end of season surge couldn’t preserve that record and a run of nine matches without a win this season, capped with defeat in the Derby to Western Sydney Wanderers has seen the club drop to tenth in the eleven team competition.
They’re only kept off the bottom courtesy of a superior goal difference to the Wanderers.
Academy Technical Lead and NPL Assistant Coach James Slaveski will take the reins until the end of the season.
