Szmodics sets tone as Derby claim first league win | OneFootball

Derby County beat Portsmouth 2-0 at Fratton Park, securing their first league win of the season and climbing from 17th to 15th in the Championship.

Sam Szmodics opened the scoring in the 16th minute, steering Bobby Clark's pass into the bottom corner to hand the visitors control.

Jacob Zetterström kept Derby in front with sharp saves, denying Marko Milovanovic and Adrian Segečić as Portsmouth pressed either side of the interval.

After coming on for Rhian Brewster, Lars-Jorgen Salvesen swept in Oscar Fraulo's cut-back to double the lead (62.).

There were treatment stoppages for Ryan Hedges, and Craig Forsyth later departed injured as Ryan Nyambe was introduced.

Portsmouth saw plenty of the ball, finishing with 65.3% possession and 21 attempts, but only three on target. Derby were clinical, registering five shots on target from eight attempts.

Portsmouth drop to 20th and host Cardiff next. Derby visit West Ham next.
