UEFA confirmed that Polish referee Szymon Marciniak will take charge of FC Porto v Manchester City on Tuesday, the opening round of the Champions League league phase.
At Estádio do Dragão in Porto, he will be assisted by compatriot Tomasz Listkiewicz, with Dutch officials Pol van Boekel and Dennis Higler acting as VARs.
Marciniak handled the 2022 World Cup final in Qatar, where Argentina beat France 4-2 on penalties after a 3-3 draw following extra time.
He also refereed the 2023 Champions League final, which ended in Manchester City’s victory over Inter Milan.
He has previously overseen Porto three times in the competition, including Roma v FC Porto 0-3 in 2016/17. In 2022/23 he took charge of Porto’s matches against Atlético Madrid, a 2-1 defeat, and Inter Milan, a 0-0 draw.
Kick-off is at 20:00. Manchester City were second in the most recent Premier League season.
