According to O Jogo, the Tribunal Arbitral do Desporto (TAD) has reduced FC Porto winger William Gomes’s suspension from two matches to one, clearing him for the season-opening Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira.
The 20-year-old Brazilian was sent off against Casa Pia on matchday 20 of the I Liga last season. The one-match ban has already been served on matchday 21 against Sporting, before the punishment was provisionally stayed.
His fine was also cut, from 918 to 510 euros.
The ruling deemed the challenge negligent rather than violent conduct or other serious behaviour, accepting FC Porto’s argument that it amounted to a serious but commonplace high-foot offence rather than a deliberate assault.
It further noted the incident was isolated and fortuitous, cited the absence of relevant prior disciplinary issues, and recognised William’s immediate apology as an act of fair play. FC Porto face Torreense in that match to start 2026/27.
