Japan will again be without Takefusa Kubo for the World Cup last-16 against Brazil on Monday at 19:00, the winger having been sidelined since the opening 2-2 draw with the Netherlands.

Kubo set up a goal in that match before going off in the 75th minute. Without him, Japan beat Tunisia 4-0 then drew 1-1 with Sweden, finishing second in Group F behind the Dutch.

According to ESPN Asia, head coach Hajime Moriyasu said Kubo is only running and doing individual work for now, so he will not face Brazil, adding they hope for a quick recovery, which the player also wants.

During Sunday’s 15-minute media window at training, the Real Sociedad winger worked separately and without a ball.

Kubo is 25 and has 50 caps and seven goals for Japan.
