Rangers face serious rivals in their chase of Hammarby defender Hampus Skoglund, as the sporting director of Turkish side Amedspor, Serkan Recber, has ‘taken action’ for his signature.
The Ibrox giants bid farewell to captain James Tavernier at the end of last season, bringing an end to an era and leaving a sizeable void at right-back that, as one former Gers star noted, will not be easy to fill.
They have also seen Max Aarons end his loan, meaning Rangers may very well need to land two right-backs.
The 22-year-old Skoglund, who plies his trade in the Allsvenskan, has featured in ten league matches this season and has chipped in with one assist for the Swedish side currently sitting fourth in the table.
Skoglund enjoyed a breakout campaign last season, registering four assists in 27 appearances as Hammarby finished second, performances that put him firmly on the radar of clubs across Europe.

Rangers’ interest in the defender is well established, but a deal could be difficult as Hammarby sporting director Mikael Hjelmborg is determined to keep the squad together.
The Swedish club’s representative has indicated that no concrete progress has been made so far and stressed that any potential move is still in its early stages.
Now Rangers have to deal with competition from Turkey.
According to Turkish daily Gazete Vatan, Amedspor sporting director Recber has also entered the race, having ‘taken action’ as the club look to beat the Gers to the signing of the Swedish right-back.
Recber is understood to have tracked Skoglund’s development closely during his time at Besiktas and is now keen to lure the defender to Turkey.

Amedspor are far from alone in their pursuit, though, with clubs from Germany, France and Italy also credited with an interest in the 22-year-old, setting up a fiercely competitive race should Rangers decide to press ahead with a move.
The Stockholm-based talent has also been deployed on the left flank when needed, with his versatility likely to appeal to Danny Rohl as he shapes his squad at Ibrox.
While Rangers have already strengthened their attacking ranks with the arrival of Lawrence Shankland, focus is now shifting to defensive reinforcements,
