Daniel Farke made nine changes for Leeds United’s FA Cup trip to Norwich City and still won 3-0, a late-season audition for fringe players. According to Leeds Live, some may be wondering about their futures as the summer window approaches. For some, it might prove a final chance to start this season.
Joel Piroe finally opened his account with a tidy finish. It was only his fifth start, with three in cups, and he played off the main striker. A summer exit remains highly probable, yet the goal underlined that Leeds still have the Championship golden boot winner.
Daniel James, starting for the first time since November, is still without a goal contribution but he effectively created Gabriel Gudmundsson’s first Leeds goal. Using his pace, it was a net positive ahead of a crucial World Cup play-off.
Wilfried Gnonto saw an early strike ruled out for his handball but otherwise did amply.
Ao Tanaka was stationed deepest in midfield and often dropped into defence in possession. His 83 percent pass completion was the lowest among Leeds’ natural midfielders, he was twice dispossessed and booked, though he also produced five recoveries and six duels won.
Sebastiaan Bornauw was withdrawn at half-time without any injury sign, so if it was tactical that felt a blow after three league games on the bench. Facundo Buonanotte made the squad for the first time in four matches but did not get on.
