Igli Tare is facing a potentially turbulent summer beyond his recent dismissal from Milan, with the Albanian sporting director understood to have been placed under investigation by Albanian authorities on suspicion of money laundering and corruption.

According to MilanNews.it, Tare’s name has emerged in connection with an ongoing investigation by Albania’s Special Anti-Corruption and Organised Crime Prosecution Office, known as SPAK.

The former Milan sporting director is alleged to have become a person of interest during a probe originally centred on former Albanian deputy prime minister Belinda Balluku, who faces accusations relating to violations in public procurement.

Tare faces double blow after Milan sacking as Albanian investigation emerges

The development represents a significant further complication for Tare, who was dismissed by AC Milan just ten days ago as part of owner Gerry Cardinale’s wholesale overhaul of the club’s leadership structure following their failure to secure Champions League qualification.

The sacking, which also claimed head coach Massimiliano Allegri, CEO Giorgio Furlani and technical director Geoffrey Moncada, came after a season widely described as an unequivocal failure by the club’s own statement.

The Albanian investigation adds a deeply unwelcome dimension to what is already a difficult period for the 52-year-old, who has not yet responded publicly to the allegations.
