Feyenoord beat Utrecht 1-0 at Stadion Galgenwaard as Oussama Targhalline's early strike moved Robin van Persie's side up from third to second in the Eredivisie.

Early on, Timon Wellenreuther denied Gjivai Zechiël before Oussama Targhalline arrowed in from outside the box in the 10th minute after Jakub Moder's pass.

After the restart, Zechiël tested Wellenreuther again, but the goalkeeper held firm. Utrecht pushed for a leveller, with Miguel Rodríguez also drawing a save.

The hosts' task got harder when Rodríguez received a second yellow and was sent off (78.).

Feyenoord managed the game with 10 attempts and 53.3% possession. Utrecht produced five efforts on target from six attempts but could not beat Wellenreuther.

Next, Utrecht visit NEC Nijmegen. Feyenoord host Go Ahead Eagles.
