The 28 year old left back who joined from Kilmarnock in a £2 million deal back in 2019, made 216 appearances for the club, helping the hoops win 11 honours in the process, before opting to join Greek side PAOK when his contract expired last summer.

Now the Scotland international has explained the main reason that influenced his decision, not that it will take anyone by surprise.

Greg Taylor explained all to former Celtic skipper Charlie Mulgrew in a honest and frank interview on Mulgrew’s Pitch to Par YouTube series.

“I think in the ideal scenario, if you knew you were probably going to be as much of a mainstay as you’d been before. That was my big thing, I was desperate to still be a main voice, a main player,” Taylor explained.

He added: “I felt like that’s what I’d been, and I’d done that, and I’d obviously known Kieran was coming back, which made that a wee bit more difficult. So, just with that, I just felt that it was maybe the time to try something different.

“I was at an age that, if I didn’t move on, I was never going to.”

Despite feeling the need to leave, Greg loved his time at the club, and has nothing but fond memories of his six years at Celtic Park.

“I was excited to see what else was going to happen, and it ended up being Greece. What an amazing six, seven years of my life and such an amazing moment in Celtic.

Greg despite not being held in the same esteem as his international teammate in the eyes of the Celtic supporters, contributed massively to our success, and deserves nothing but our respect and recognition for giving one hundred percent every time he pulled on a Celtic jersey.
