Aurélien Tchouaméni has addressed the dressing-room incident with Federico Valverde, playing down the coverage and rejecting claims he punched his team-mate.

According to Superdeporte, the altercation at Valdebebas led Real Madrid to issue financial sanctions to both players.

Valverde spoke first in midweek, stressing the support he felt from the club and supporters and framing the episode as a lesson within football and life.

On Sunday, speaking from France’s camp, Tchouaméni said the situation had been amplified by the media attention around Madrid and dismissed some reporting as nonsense, adding that it was not as described.

He declined to go into detail, noting the club were aware of what happened, and said life moves on. He added that he and Fede remain focused on winning trophies with Madrid and that, if France meet Uruguay at the World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada, he will play to win. He said there are no personal issues with Valverde.

Both players have sought to cool the fallout from a widely publicised row and regard the matter as closed while turning to national-team goals.
