Teddy Sheringham says Millwall should be ambitious in 2024/25 but predicts a mid-table finish for the Lions.

Millwall will be looking to improve on their mid-table finish last term, but Teddy Sheringham feels that the same ambition of finishing well clear of relegation has to be the aim in 2024/25.

There has been plenty of recent transfer chatter surrounding the Lions, who will have ideas of sustaining the stability put in place by Neil Harris at the back-end of last season or even upsetting the odds to challenge for unlikely play-off contention with the right signings.

Millwall will start their first full season under the second reign of Harris against Watford on August 10th, during a campaign in which they will look to build on a strong end to last term, where the Lions won six in a row at the end.

Harris left Cambridge United to return to Millwall and steer them away from a daunting relegation dogfight back in February and did exactly that, with his side actually claiming eight victories from their final 13 matches to eventually secure a highly respectable 13th-placed finish.

Millwall will require a strong transfer window if they are to avoid a potential repeat of relegation fears, though, and the addition of Macaulay Langstaff will have gone a long way to helping the club's supporters raise their expectations over the last few days.

Sheringham started his professional career with the Lions and became a huge success in the English capital, appearing 244 times for the club during the 1980s and the early 1990s. Not only that, but in scoring 111 goals in the process, he was able to establish himself as a club legend there and went on to impress for much of the remainder of his playing career.

Featuring for the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur after leaving The Den, he was able to win a decent amount of silverware as well, but the Premier League great remembers his roots in South East London and spoke to us about Millwall's prospects for next season in the Championship.

Speaking exclusively to FLW, via Crypto Sports betting, Sheringham said: "With Neil Harris back in charge, Millwall can look to have a good season.

"Avoiding relegation shouldn't be the aim, as Harris is a good coach and knows the division well. But there are a lot of good teams in the league, so a good season will be finishing around mid-table, and I have full faith in Harris to get it right.

"Neil Harris hasn't come into the club for the second time to settle for avoiding relegation. He is ambitious and will look to do as well as he did last time, and to push for Millwall to finish as high as possible in the Championship.

"He has a good eye for a player and this bodes well for the club."

In Harris, Millwall have an experienced manager with know-how in the division, but also someone who understands the DNA and identity of the club, who can now build the club in his image.

The division looks as competitive as ever in the middle portion of the table, though, highlighting how savvy they must be in the market to gain an advantage over their second tier peers.

Langstaff is a signing in the right direction, but more is needed for Harris to maintain the strong start he has made to being back in the dugout with the Lions.
