Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has expressed his desire to keep Casemiro at Old Trafford this summer.
Although reports earlier this summer strongly suggested that Casemiro’s days at Old Trafford were numbered, the Brazilian veteran looks set to remain at the club for another season.
The interest that was expected from Saudi Arabia never materialised.
Speaking to reporters after watching his side lose the Community Shield against City, Ten Hag said (via Manchester Evening News): “I don’t have any signal he won’t stay at the club. We are very happy with that.”
Ten Hag is not going to dwell on the situation if Casemiro’s only solution is to remain in Manchester. The manager still needs to get the best out of his player and may as well keep the former Real Madrid star on side.
Furthermore, Casemiro is the only recognised defensive midfielder in the squad. I hope that changes before transfer deadline day because United cannot afford to be so reliant on a 32-year-old midfielder.
Ten Hag was also asked by reporters about his defence ahead of the imminent arrivals of Bayern Munich duo Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.
“It’s clear we have the problems and we have to work, the players have to work to be available and the staff have to work,” Ten Hag said. “Together it should be a good collaboration with the players who are available.”
