Cucurella gave an explosive interview with The Athletic in which he criticised the project amongst many other things.

He spoke very openly about a lack of experience in the squad, and how he wouldn’t have let Enzo Maresca leave half way through the season.

Fabrizio Romano on Marc Cucurella comments

Cucurella is one of the senior players at Chelsea, and has been one of the top performers over the last 18 months.

The 27-year-old will have two years remaining on his deal come the end of the season, and it’ll be interesting if Chelsea plan on offering him a new deal.

Cucurella signed an improved contract last year, but interestingly the length stayed the same, and it’s unlikely his comments will have gone down well with the club hierarchy.

His comments were well received by fans, and Romano has stated the left back wanted to send the best possible message to the club and supporters with his comments.

“Today with the Athletic interview, Marc Cucurella sent important messages to Chelsea,” he told his YouTube channel.

“Strong message from one of the leaders of the dressing room and one of the faces of the project.

“Tense situation in the media. He wants to send the best possible message to the club and fans.”
