Ter Stegen praises "fantastic" Urbig and Germany's goalkeeper options | OneFootball

Marc-André ter Stegen has hailed Jonas Urbig and the next generation of goalkeepers coming through for the German national team.

“The goalkeepers I see in training here and who will be here next week are all excellent," he said during this evening's press conference. 

The Ajax player, in the familiar settings of Amsterdam ahead of Germany's clash with the Netherlands, feels competition will be fierce.

"We’re all operating at a good level. We want to make the coach’s [selection] decision as difficult as possible in the future.

"Jonas Urbig is still very young and a fantastic goalkeeper. He hasn’t established himself at Bayern yet because Manu [Neuer] is there.

"But the two of them have developed into a great partnership. He can look to Manu as a role model, and that’s very important for Jonas. 

“He’s in a great situation: he doesn’t have the maximum pressure on him yet, and he can develop really well,” ter Stegen explained.

The 34-year-old himself is set to make his first appearance for Germany since June 2025 after a prolonged period of untimely injuries.
