According to journalist Pete O’Rourke, the defender is making the switch to the Valley, despite being a summer arrival for the Red Dragons.

The Welshman signed for the Red Dragons in the summer following their promotion to the Championship, and Leicester City’s relegation from the Premier League.

The 32-year-old initially started the campaign as a key figure for Phil Parkinson’s side, starting each of their first five league fixtures, as well as their EFL Cup clash against Cardiff City.

However, he has not played a single minute for Wrexham in the months since the 2-1 loss to the League One side on 28 October.

Charlton have reportedly agreed a loan deal with Wrexham for Coady for the remainder of the campaign.

The defender is set for a temporary switch to the Valley in a bid to bolster Nathan Jones’ backline and their attempts to avoid relegation back to League One.

Coady will be hoping to get back to playing regular minutes, with his last league appearance coming on 13 September in a 3-1 loss to QPR.

The centre-back has plenty of Premier League experience from his time at Leicester, as well as Wolves and Everton.

However, he has been out of action for the last three months after falling down the pecking order of Parkinson’s first team squad.

Jones’ side made a promising start to life in the second tier this term, but have fallen to 19th in the table, and they sit just three points clear of 22nd place Blackburn Rovers.

Meanwhile, Wrexham are sixth, one point clear of seventh place Bristol City.

Next up for Charlton is a trip to Coady’s old club Leicester on 31 January in a 12.30pm kick-off.

Conor Coady signing is a short-term bet by Charlton

Coady is far from his best these days, but Charlton need the defensive reinforcement given how injuries have hurt their team in recent weeks.

Signing the Welshman on loan for the rest of the season is a short-term bet on shoring up the backline, which could prove a smart move for the time being.

Coady can still compete at a Championship level, and someone with his experience joining the dressing room could also prove quite valuable.

This is a deal that makes a lot of sense for all parties, as it’s clear he’s not in Parkinson’s first team plans at Wrexham.
