Barcelona star Gavi has on Monday come in for widespread criticism across the fanbase of the Spanish national team.
This comes owing to the 21-year-old’s performance in La Roja’s latest outing.
Spain are of course fresh off kicking their campaign at the World Cup into gear, in a meeting with African minnows Cabo Verde.
Luis de la Fuente’s troops entered the matchup as overwhelming favourites, expected to blitz their little-known opponents with an all-out attacking assault.
When all was said and done on an evening to forget, however, the European champions found themselves forced to settle for a share of the spoils, in a goalless stalemate.
A whole host of Spanish stars, in turn, have inevitably been singled out for criticism online, with Luis de la Fuente having also not been spared.
Midfielder Gavi was afforded a starting berth against Cabo Verde, in an unorthodox role out wide. The Blaugrana man struggled to make his impact felt over the course of his 70 minutes on the pitch, though, before being hooked for Lamine Yamal.
And the backlash has since been as ruthless as it has swift, with some having gone as far as to label Gavi’s performance as ‘terrible’.
