FLW takes a look at three Charlton Athletic players who could potentially leave the club before the end of the transfer window.

Key Takeaways

  • Charlton Athletic have signed new players to improve on last season's 16th place finish in League One under Nathan Jones.
  • Players like Scott Fraser, Terry Taylor, and Nathan Asiimwe could leave Charlton before the transfer window closes.
  • Fraser may go out on loan due to his wages, Taylor may move on, and Asiimwe is set for a loan spell to gain experience.

Charlton Athletic have signed several new players this summer and Nathan Jones will be hoping the rest of his plans fall into place during the remainder of the transfer window.

The 2024/25 campaign is Jones' first full season in the dugout for the Addicks and he will be looking to significantly improve on last season's 16th-place finish in League One.

Charlton have brought in a number of new players during the summer transfer window, including striker Matty Godden from Coventry City, midfielder Luke Berry from Luton Town, and centre-back Alex Mitchell from Millwall.

Alfie May, who won the Golden Boot in the third tier last term, was sold to Birmingham City earlier this summer, but the Addicks will still feel as though they have put together a squad that is capable of challenging at the top end of the table this season.

It has become apparent that Charlton need to move players on if Jones is going to be able to complete all the business he would like to do before the transfer deadline.

Defender Lucas Ness has left the club and signed for League Two side Notts County for an undisclosed fee in the last week, but there are still a few other players who could also depart before the window closes.

Let's take a look at which players could leave Charlton Athletic this month.

Scott Fraser

Scottish midfielder Scott Fraser has not featured for the Addicks so far this season, after spending the second half of the 2023/24 campaign on loan at Hearts.

The 29-year-old seems to have no place in Jones' plans, having not been handed a squad number for the new season. He has failed to live up to expectations for large parts of his spell in SE7 since joining from Ipswich Town in 2022.

It may be difficult to move Fraser on due to his wages, but it would be no surprise to see him head out on loan again for this season and leave Charlton permanently when his contract expires next summer.

Terry Taylor

Terry Taylor's career has stalled since he signed for Charlton last summer, with injuries preventing him from featuring as often as he would have liked during his debut season at The Valley.

The 23-year-old cost the Addicks £150,000 in compensation when he joined from Burton Albion last year, but he now seems to be surplus to requirements under Jones.

Therefore, the midfielder could leave the club before the end of August, especially considering that he has already been linked with other League One clubs during the current transfer window.

Nathan Asiimwe

Young right-back Nathan Asiimwe is set to leave Charlton on loan before the end of the summer transfer window, with Kayne Ramsay and Tennai Watson ahead of him in the pecking order.

Asiimwe has shown promise so far during his short career, and a temporary spell away from the club playing regular first team football could be exactly what he needs to showcase his ability to Jones.

The 19-year-old will likely drop down a division on a short-term basis before the end of August.
