Edin Terzic’s Athletic Bilbao era began with excitement and a sizeable crowd at Lezama as around 500 supporters watched the first open pre-season session. According to as.com, access was limited to members and Club Athletic, prompting some frustration, and the workout was streamed.

The morning started at 10.30 on Campo 7 with recovery runs after yesterday’s friendly in Portugalete against Derio, split into three groups. Mikel Vesga worked separately as he continues to seek an exit, with Mallorca interested. Ándoni Gorosabel managed minor discomfort, while Unai Vencedor, Sannadi and Serrano were absent, Yuri trained indoors and Dani Vivian stayed out as a precaution.

The World Cup contingent, the Williams brothers, Unai Simón and Aymeric Laporte, were not present. At 11.00 the squad moved to Campo 3, with packed stands and a festive mood as temperatures eased.

Ball work dominated for just over an hour, first under fitness coach David Casamichana, then under Terzic. There were 15 staff members overseeing 20 outfield players, split into four groups of five, plus three goalkeepers. Djaló and Navarro, standouts in Portugalete, were involved.

Drills included slaloms with finishes into small goals, then rondos, and a small-sided game starting from the keepers, who had begun earlier with Iru. Chants rolled around the stand as the session grew in intensity.

Afterwards Selton and Navarro chatted with an assistant, then Terzic led the squad around the stand for autographs and photos. He shared a warm moment with Óscar De Marcos’s family, telling the grandfather in English that Óscar is a great person. Training resumes on Friday at 10.30, with the first 15 minutes open to the media, before Saturday’s friendly at Sarriena against Leioa of Tercera Federación, ahead of the 22 August league opener with Sevilla at San Mamés.
