Texaco has filed a lawsuit against Flamengo, alleging a breach of an exclusivity clause, and is seeking R$ 1.5 million plus recognition of the contract’s termination.

O Globo reports that the dispute centres on timing. Their agreement granted exclusivity from January 2025 to December 2026. Flamengo issued 90 days’ notice in late June, so the deal would run until the end of September while a replacement was negotiated.

In July the club announced Lubrax’s return as sponsor, and Texaco says that came before the previous contract had formally ended, breaching exclusivity. The company also asked the court to freeze the two remaining payments, for August and September, of R$ 400,000 each, and to remove its branding from club assets.

Flamengo argues any obligations related to termination could only arise after the 90-day notice expired. The club maintains the contract was still being wound down when the new partnership was unveiled, disputing Texaco’s reading of the clause.

So far, the court has twice refused Texaco’s urgent motions, leaving payments and branding in place. The merits of the case have not yet been examined, so any ruling on an alleged breach remains open. Lubrax continues as the club’s new partner.
