“That goal will come in the next game”: Díaz makes a prediction ahead of the Union match | OneFootball

Luis Díaz is still waiting to recapture the fluidity he showed last season at FC Bayern. After scoring in the Bundesliga opener against VfB Stuttgart, the Colombian has recently missed a few prime scoring opportunities. Ahead of the home game against Union Berlin, however, the 29-year-old is feeling extremely confident.

“I’m looking to be my best self, and I’ll find that form soon. I think that goal will come in the next game,” Díaz explained in an interview with RTL/Sky.

Friday night’s opponent could hardly be a better fit for this announcement. Last season, Díaz scored a spectacular goal against Union that he still counts among the best of his career.

“That’s hard to say because I’ve scored some really, really beautiful goals. But it’s one of the best goals I’ve scored in my career,” the winger recalled. He particularly liked how it came about: it was a “street goal” that reminded him of his childhood.

Díaz is still searching for his best form

The fact that things aren’t going quite as smoothly right now as they did during his strong debut season doesn’t worry Díaz too much. Back then, the Colombian made an immediate impact, scoring in the first three Bundesliga matchdays and finishing the season with 15 goals and 17 assists.

“It was a very, very special year for me,” Díaz recalled. “I was welcomed incredibly well. From day one, my teammates made me feel as if I’d been here for many years.”

So far this season, he’s lacked consistency, particularly in front of goal. Most recently, Díaz squandered several golden opportunities. Even in the 2-1 win over Elversberg, his backheel attempt with a clear shot on goal sparked some debate.

That doesn’t make him nervous. Díaz sees his mentality as one of his greatest strengths: “I always want to push for more, to achieve more.”

He also sees room for improvement across the entire team. “We’re not quite the Bayern team we were last season yet. We’re not at that level yet, but I think that’s normal.”

Meanwhile, Díaz is impressed by new signing Nathaniel Brown. He describes the German national team player as “spectacular.” The Colombian is particularly taken with Brown’s versatility.

“In the first few games, I thought, ‘Wow.’ He really surprised me; he has enormous potential,” said Díaz. He sees the fact that Brown has even been deployed as a number 10 as a major advantage for the team.

Díaz also spoke enthusiastically about Michael Olise. The Colombian is glad that his attacking partner continues to play in Munich despite interest from top international clubs: “It was important that we weren’t torn apart as a team. It would have been very difficult to lose a player like that.”

On Friday, however, the focus will first be on Union Berlin. And Díaz has already set a personal goal for himself. After his dream goal against Union Berlin last season, he now hopes to break his scoring drought against this very opponent.
