On Wednesday evening, FC Bayern confidently overcame Osnabrück in the DFB Cup. The record champions defeated Osnabrück 4-1, but had to weather a shock right at the start of the match.
That’s because Osnabrück scored the 1–0 goal right in the opening minutes. Robin Meißner struck a volley so perfectly that he sent the ball into the corner from long range.
This sent the crowd at the Bremer Brücke into a frenzy. But Bayern fought back, playing smart and patiently. And in the end, they secured a decisive victory.
Jonas Urbig was in goal for Bayern on Wednesday. He was chosen over Manuel Neuer, who is expected to play again this weekend upon his return to Gelsenkirchen. Urbig summed up the match as follows: “We won because we kept pushing forward. We kept pushing until the very end. We knew going in that it would be tough here today. The atmosphere was great—kudos to the Osnabrück fans.“
Meanwhile, the opponent’s dream goal left Urbig in awe. He raved after the game: “He blasted that thing into the corner—that was insane! It reminds me a bit of the goal we conceded against Pafos last season.” Back then, too, Bayern conceded an absolute wonder goal into the top corner against an inferior opponent.

Otherwise, Urbig didn’t have too much to do. The Bayern goalkeeper was alert whenever Osnabrück played long balls, and he confidently saved the few shots on goal that came his way. So Urbig’s first competitive match of the new season ended on a positive note for him. The goalkeeper now hopes he’ll get to play in a few more games—and, if possible, in all competitions.
