The left-back scored in stoppage time on Tuesday against Denmark, helping seal a 4–2 win that confirmed his nation’s first World Cup qualification since 1998.

When asked about Starmer’s address in the House of Commons, Tierney said via Sky Sports: “I seen that. I seen it on TikTok. That’s how far it goes. It reaches everywhere. And I think he’s an Arsenal fan, isn’t he? That’s why he mentioned me. It’s mental.”

Addressing MPs on Wednesday at PMQs, Starmer remarked: “Mr Speaker, let me start by congratulating Scotland on their magnificent victory last night, qualifying for the World Cup for the first time since 1998.”

“Mr Speaker, they qualified with fantastic goals, including a cracker from former Arsenal player Kieran Tierney. He was always a great favourite with the fans.”

It was just the second goal Tierney has ever scored for Scotland, and it’s hard to imagine him netting one that carries more significance in his career than that one on Tuesday.

“It was a really important goal,” KT added. “It’s when I see the fans’ reactions in different pubs and wherever people are watching it, in houses.”

“And when you hear these stories, you realise how much it means to people and how much the national team brings everyone together in the country. So, just to be a part of that, a small part of that, is amazing.”

Tierney and his Scotland teammates will find out who they face in the 2026 World Cup group stage when the draw is held on Friday, 5 December, in Washington, DC.

Steve Clarke’s side will be a pot three team but will fancy their chances after winning their qualification section for the first time since 1982 and reaching the World Cup Finals for the first time since 1998.
