AI believes these 20 stadiums are the quietest in the Championship, League One and League Two

There are plenty of factors to consider when listing off some of the most iconic stadiums in English football, with plenty of those found in the EFL.

The overall capacity and atmosphere generated by, mainly, the home supporters often leads to mixed reviews from fanbases across the Championship, League One and League Two, with all 72 sets already mapping out potential 'away days' for the 2025/26 campaign.

However, such high reputations when it comes to being a ferocious and hostile fanbase hasn't stuck with every club up and down the land, and with that in mind, Football League World asked the well-known chatbot, ChatGPT, to rank the 20 quietest stadiums in the second, third and fourth tiers for the upcoming season.

20 Accrington Stanley - Wham Stadium

Kickstarting this list is the Wham Stadium, home of Accrington Stanley.

The East Lancashire ground is one of the smallest in the EFL with a capacity of 5,400, and last season only averaged crowds of 2,265 - the lowest in League Two.

Therefore, it's unsurprising that AI cited poor attendances as the main reason for Stanley's position on this list, also believing that even when full, the atmosphere doesn't live up to the billing.

19 Barrow AFC - Holker Street

Another fourth-tier ground follows at 19th in the form of Holker Street.

Barrow are heading into their sixth successive season in the EFL, but the Bluebirds' home isn't renowned for its noise, which, in no small part, is down to how far opposition supporters have to travel, with Fleetwood Town now the nearest divisional rival following Carlisle United and Morecambe's relegations into non-league.

AI believes that the stadium's 6,500 capacity is the main restriction when it comes to enhancing the atmosphere in Cumbria.

18 Salford City - Peninsula Stadium

Salford City are hoping to make waves under the new consortium fronted by Gary Neville and David Beckham, which could also boost the attendance figures and atmosphere at the Peninsula Stadium.

The Ammies' home can currently house up to 5,108 spectators, but the Greater Manchester side's average attendance of 2,849 was the second-smallest in League Two in 2024/25, despite the fact the club were vying for a play-off place under Karl Robinson, and that is the key reasoning behind AI's logic for this particular placement.

17 Mansfield Town - Field Mill

The first ground to host League One football on this list is Field Mill, home of Mansfield Town.

The Stags had a respectable first season back at third-tier level after promotion and were backed by an average gate of 7,769 in Nottinghamshire as Nigel Clough's side finished 17th.

However, AI believes that the atmosphere naturally fluctuates depending on the club's fortunes and the importance of stand-alone matches.

Croud Meadow is next up, with Shrewsbury Town's stadium failing to draw great praise from AI.

The Shropshire outfit had the worst home record in League One last season, despite defeating both Birmingham City and local rivals, Wrexham, and as a result, averaged the fifth-smallest gate in the third tier with 6,207.

AI believes that the ground's locality to the A5 helps draw in reasonable crowds, but the amount of noise leaves a lot to be desired.

15 Barnsley - Oakwell

Oakwell is one of the more historic grounds to feature on this list, with Barnsley calling it home since 1887.

However, AI believes that such features aren't beneficial to the atmosphere, with the West Stand extremely dated in comparison to the other three, which make an overall 23,287 capacity.

Another key detail highlighted by ChatGPT is that the atmosphere can often hinge on the away support, with high-profile or local clubs known for regularly taking at least 5,000 to South Yorkshire and drowning out Tykes supporters.

14 Stockport County - Edgeley Park

Stockport County's rapid rise has seen Edgeley Park full to the brim more often than not. However, its small capacity in comparison to many divisional or EFL-wide stadiums is the reasoning behind AI's inclusion.

It does seem extremely harsh to see the historic ground feature on this list for that sole reason, with an average attendance of 9,602, as Dave Challinor's side finished third in League One before missing out on promotion in the play-offs, improving on totals of 9,331 and 8,895 for the two previous seasons - the highest recorded since the 1997/98 campaign, when County were in the second-tier.

13 Rotherham United - New York Stadium

Rotherham United's move into the New York Stadium in 2012 was the catalyst for a sustained period of relative success for the Millers, although the atmosphere isn't exactly the greatest.

AI believes that the modern design of the 12,021-capacity stadium, which averaged a gate of 9,330 last term, allows for a consistent atmosphere to be generated, although instances of such circumstances occurring in this part of Yorkshire have been few and far between of late due to underperformance on the pitch.

12 Cambridge United - Abbey Stadium

Next up is the Abbey Stadium, home of Cambridge United.

Supporters in this part of the world haven't had many reasons to be cheerful given their relegation back to League Two after four years. AI believes that a mismatch of stands leads to a poor atmosphere, although those on the Newmarket Road terrace have constantly tried their best to boost the support of Neil Harris' men.

Northampton Town's home of Sixfields is certainly unique, with the 8,203-capacity ground best known for sticking out at the bottom of a hill.

However, all four stands, including the East Stand - which took over 10 years to be revamped - are all open in the corners, which, in AI's belief, allows the atmosphere to escape, making the Cobblers' ground one of the quietest in the entirety of League One.
