Leeds United could again target players entering the final year of their contracts to exploit reduced leverage. Recent examples include Jayden Bogle, signed from Sheffield United for £5m, and Ao Tanaka from Fortuna Dusseldorf as he neared his final year. It has proved a useful tactic.

According to Transfermarkt, an XI of such options across the Premier League and Europe is reaching that 12-month stage, with names from Arsenal, Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund among them.
